Diary, 1861 July 4 - 1865 June 19. The diary discusses Edward's enlistment into company "K", 17th Alabama. He mentions the battles of Manassas (first Bull Run), Va.; Centreville, Va.; Shiloh, Miss.; Chickamauga, and others, as well as the sinking of the Confederate Steam Sloop "Alabama" which was sunk off the coast of Cherbourgh, France by the U.S. Steam Sloop "Kearsage."

Edward Crenshaw was born 1842 Aug. 29 in Butler Co., Ala. He was a son of Judge Walter Henry and Sarah Anderson (Crenshaw). He graduated from the University of Alabama, and from the law school of the University of Virginia, 1861. He entered the C.S. Army that year, enlisting as Second Lieutenant of Co. K, Seventeenth Alabama Volunteer Infantry, and served with that command until 1863 Mar., when he was promoted to Captain of Co. B, Fifty-Eight Alabama Infantry Regiment. I...
